Canada's Smartphone Penetration Is Marginally Higher Than The US

Carissa Drohan-Jennings, June 7th 2011

Dispelling any myth that the Canadian market is slower to adapt to mobile technology than that of the US, www.comScore.com announced on June 1, 2011, that Canada has a higher penetration rate of smartphones than its US counterpart.

ComScore – a global source for digital marketing intelligence – also announced the introduction of its syndicated mobile measurement service in Canada - comScore MobiLens. MobiLens offers insights into mobile consumers' demographics, behaviours, and device attributes and capabilities, to provide a comprehensive picture of the mobile market.

The announcement contained insight into Canadian consumers' mobile behaviour and device usage.  It reported that 37.2 percent of Canadian mobile users (ages 13+) use their device to browse the web, and that Canada's smartphone penetration reached 32.8 percent in March 2011, marginally higher than that of the US at 32.2 percent.

So what does all of this mean for landlords?  Well, if we combine this data with the data that we've recorded at Landlord Web Solutions (LWS), we see a compelling reason for landlords to consider optimizing their website to be mobile-friendly.

LWS's research has shown that between 2 to 5 percent of visitors arriving on our clients' websites is coming from a mobile device.  Although this is still a smaller overall percentage, it is continuing to rise.

It's a fact that renters are on the move and they're increasingly looking for content on their mobile devices.  If you're a landlord who doesn't have a mobile friendly website then it's time to start thinking about how developing a mobile-friendly rental website may have a positive impact on your business.

If have any questions about how to go about optimizing your website to be mobile friendly then send us an email and we'll be happy to provide you with some free advice.  You can also read these articles for more information on the subject: 5 Important Statistics Supporting The Need For Mobile Websites, Mobile Websites and Location Awareness, 3 Key Tips To Making A Mobile Website User-Friendly.
